PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact exhaust muffler having a structure superior in mountability on a vehicle without dropping output characteristics of an engine. SOLUTION: An interference passage 18 formed in an air gap between an outer drum and an inner drum is composed of a plurality of annular partition walls 19 roughly perpendicularly crossing an axial line of a drum main body 4 attached at each predetermined interval along an axial direction, a plurality of annular chambers 20 having annular cross section partitioned by the partition walls 19, and cut edges 19a restricting and circulating exhaust gas formed on the partition wall 19. The cut edges 19a of the adjoining partition walls 19 are arranged in such a manner that the same are staggered at roughly 180 degrees and communicate to each annular chamber 20 via cut edges 20. Exhaust gas passing through the cut edge 20 branches in right and left semicircular arc flow along an outer circumference of the inner drum 2, and then the both flow interfere and merge toward the next cut edge 19a.
