<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inhibiting growth of an abnormal prion protein, inhibiting the growth of the abnormal prion protein by inhibiting superoxide generation, and to provide a method for inhibiting the superoxide generation and a method for detecting a prion protein or a prion-derived peptide. <P>SOLUTION: A superoxide generation inhibitor is added to food, feedstuff or the like in order to inhibit the superoxide generation, whereby the growth of the abnormal prion protein can be inhibited. Moreover, the growth of the abnormal prion protein can be inhibited by feeding animals with it, whereby prion diseases such as BSE and the like can be prevented from developing. Furthermore, the superoxide generation can be inhibited by using the superoxide generation inhibitor. A composition for detecting the prion protein or the prion-derived peptide which consists of hydrogen oxide, a copper ion and a substrate, can efficiently pick out the prion protein or the prion-derived peptide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
