<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an overhead of concealment processing by decreasing the operational amount when the type of an area adjacent to an area to be interpolated is classified. <P>SOLUTION: When the type of a reference area adjacent to a missing macroblock is classified, first classification processing S421 is performed first to find a feature vector 1 representing a distribution state of luminance values of pixels constituting the reference area and then to decide "Smoothness" or "Texture" based upon the feature vector 1. Then only when the type of the reference area can not be classified through the first classification processing, second classification processing S422 is carried out to calculate a feature quantity vector 2 representing a gradient of pixels present in the reference area and to decide to which the type of the reference area belongs among "Smoothness", "Edge", or "Texture" based upon the calculated feature quantity vector 2 and feature quantity vector 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
