PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel sheet for a hot press in which the production of scale can be prevented upon a hot press, and whose formability can be improved as well, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a steel sheet for a hot press coated with a plating layer comprising, by mass≥50% aluminum and 3 to 38% graphite. Its oxidation is prevented by the aluminum plating layer, and further, cracks upon its forming is prevented by the solid lubrication effect of the graphite incorporated into the plating layer. Further, the graphite is incorporated in such a manner that the cleavage face of the graphite is preferentially oriented parallelly to the steel sheet surface in the plating layer, and the solid lubrication effect is more effectively exhibited.
