An apparatus and a method for remote control in a portable terminal are provided to control even heterogeneous portable terminals remotely by using a remote control management server, thereby providing a user with convenience. A control terminal(110) performs remote control mainly and controls a portable terminal as an object. A target terminal(130) is an object of the remote control and controlled by the control terminal. A remote control management server(120) confirms whether the control terminal and the target terminal are heterogeneous. If so, the remote control management server converts a message, transmitted for remote control from each of the control terminal and the target terminal, into a form that a terminal of the other party can confirm. The remote control management server transmits the converted message.
