COMPOSITION COMPRISING BROMOPHENOLS OR THE EXTRACT OF POLYSIPHONIA MORROWII HARVEY HAVING ANTIVIRAL ACTIVITY AGAINST FISH PATHOGENIC VIRUSES

A Polysiphonia morrowii Harvey extract having an antiviral activity against fish pathogenic viruses, and a composition comprising bromophenol compounds are provided to prevent fishes from being infected with VHSV, IPNV, and IHNV. A Polysiphonia morrowii Harvey extract having an antiviral activity against fish pathogenic viruses is prepared by boiling Polysiphonia morrowii Harvey with 80% methanol. A composition comprising bromophenol compounds is prepared by: (i) adding methylene chloride to the Polysiphonia morrowii Harvey extract, and fractionizing it to obtain a methylene chloride-soluble extract; and (ii) adding 90% methanol to the methylene chloride-soluble extract, and fractionizing it to obtain a 90% methanol-soluble extract having an antiviral activity. The main active substance of the 90% methanol soluble extract is a bromophenol compound comprising 3-bromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzyl methyl ether and having an antiviral activity.
