[Also in Division F1] A tool retainer comprises a grab for positively engaging a shoulder 12 of a tool or tool holder 11 and urging the said tool 11 by means of springs 21 into wedging engagement with a socket 18 in the body 17 of the retainer. The grab comprises spring biased pawls 14 and a thrust rod 23 is provided for releasing the grab for tool removal. Operation of the tool retainer may be by an hydraulic actuator 25 having two spring biased pistons, one 26 for moving tool 11 out of its wedging engagement, and the other 27 for releasing the grab by means of the thrust rod 23. Driving gear wheels 19 may be attached to the retainer body 17. |
