<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling an optical writing and an image forming apparatus for preventing occurrence of scumming even when increasing the temperature of LD. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a semiconductor laser (LD) control unit 107 for controlling a bias current of the LD 101 when performing an optical writing on an image carrier using the LD 101 as a light-emitting source, wherein the LD control unit 107 performs characteristic detection of the LD 101 between sub-scanning paper sheets (in a non-image region and for a period of time not turning off the LD 101), and corrects the bias current of the LD 101 based on the detected characteristic during continuous printing. As characteristic detection of the LD 101, for example, detection of a threshold current is performed, and the threshold current is detected by performing detection of differential quantum efficiency of the LD 101. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
