PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost optical component having high manufacturing yield, in which the length of the lens part of a lensed fiber can be adjusted accurately in a short period of time, and to provide a method for manufacturing the optical component. SOLUTION: The lensed fiber 3, composed by fusion-splicing the lens part 2 of a refractive index distribution type optical fiber having a predetermined length on the tip side of a single-mode optical fiber 1, is fixed on an optical fiber fixing member 13. The lensed fiber 3 is formed into a tapered form, in such a way that the diameter of the fusion-spliced region 4 between the single-mode optical fiber 1 and a lens part 2 is increased toward the boundary of the single-mode optical fiber 1 and the lens part 2. The portion of the lens part 2, excepting the tapered and diameter increassed section 5, is made into a straight section 8 formed into a straight form. The straight section 8 is inserted into an optical fiber insertion hole 6, by making the outer diameter of the straight section 8 match the inside diameter of the optical fiber insertion hole 6 of the optical fiber fixing member 13, and the starting end of enlarged diameter 9 of the diameter enlarged section 5 is positioned and locked to the entrance of the optical fiber insertion hole 6.
