PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas spring operating device in a chair in which an operation lever and its related means and the like can easily and quickly be incorporated without affecting the seat, and at the same time, the maintenance and the like can be performed. SOLUTION: The seat 14 is supported by a supporting base 6 which is supported by legs (2, 3 and 5). At the same time, the front end sections at the lower sections facing forward in a pair of right and left backrest supporting rods 10 and 10 which support a backrest 9 are attached to both side sections of the supporting base 6. In this chair, a side surface of either one of the backrest supporting rods 10 is provided with the operation lever 56 being connected with the operating section of a gas spring 12 which regulates the movement of a movable section being provided on the chair.
