PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane treatment apparatus having a means for inexpensively and surely detecting the occurrence of membrane break. SOLUTION: A treated water outlet nozzle 12a of a hollow fiber membrane module 1 is connected to a membrane break detecting part 50 through a treated water pipe 41. When a break is present in a hollow fiber membrane 4, pressurized air from a compressor C passes through the break and flows in a treated water chamber 12, and further passes between an electrode 51 and an elbow 70 in the membrane break detecting part 50 through the pipe 41. When a bubble is present in the treated water, the current and voltage between the electrode 51 and the elbow 70 are changed at the time when the bubble passes between the electrode 51 and elbow 70. The membrane break is detected by this change pattern. A vertically guiding section 72 is provided in the elbow 70, and the electrode 51 is provided on the downstream side of this vertically guiding section 72. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
