The invention relates to a suspension device for lowerable luggage compartments (21), comprising at least one spring element (1) for supporting the movement of the compartment (21) into its closed position, against gravitational force, and at least one damping element (2) for damping the movement of the compartment (21) into its open position. A device is used to detect the weight of the compartment (21) and at least one additional spring element (25) can be connected or disconnected according to the detected weight of the compartment (21). A retaining device (13, 36) is provided, for fixing the at least one additional spring element (25). The invention also relates to a lowerable luggage compartment (21) comprising one such suspension device. In order to create one such lowerable luggage compartment (21) which can be moved into its closed position even with a full load, can be constructed in a simple and robust manner, and is easy to use, a hanging device is provided, having a retaining device (13, 36) which can be actuated by the device for detecting the weight of the compartment.
