PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a shock in an output shaft of a transmission due to lock-up when a driver releases an accelerator pedal in the midway of drive running to be switched to coast running in a lock-up capacity control device of a torque converter for locking up in coasting in the midway of coast running in order to prevent engine stall. SOLUTION: After the time t1 where an accelerator opening of the accelerator pedal 4 becomes zero, an engine output torque is lowered to cause lock-up of the torque converter. Therefore, the lock-up capacity is lowered to the minimum capacity LUstby corresponding to the standby pressure from the time t1 to the fuel cut-in of the time t4 to avoid lock-up.
