A power supply apparatus for a luminous element and a method thereof are provided to shorten an ascending section and a descending section by adopting an inductor having low inductance, and prevent an overshoot by allowing current to slowly ascend. The output calculation unit calculates a brightness level of the luminous element. The current command signal generating unit generates a current command signal to current supplied to the luminous element is adjusted stepwise.
