PURPOSE:To properly charge secondary batteries without being influenced by their charge-and-discharge state by controlling the charging by bringing a mixture gas composed of hydrogen gas and oxygen gas produced during charging into contact with an oxidizing catalyst to combust the mixture gas and then convert the heat produced by the combustion into an electric signal. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust device 3 is installed across two lead storage batteries 1. It is used to collect hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen gas (O2) produced after the batteries 1 have been charged and then to feed the collected mixture gas. The mixture gas from the device 3 is fed into a filter 4 packed with a complex catalyst such as cobalt-manganese-silver and subjected to contact combustion in the filter 4. A temperature sensor 5 which detects the temperature of the heat produced by the contact combustion and outputs a corresponding electric signal, is installed in the filter 4. A charge controller 6 receives the electric signal of the sensor 5 to compute the amount of charging and then delivers a charge signal to a power supply 2. Accordingly, the batteries 1 can be properly charged without being influenced by their charge-and-discharge state. |
