PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine system and an exhaust gas treatment device regeneration method in this system, capable of minimizing the influence on the drivability of an automobile, without making an occupant in a car feel an unpleasant feeling and a trouble. SOLUTION: The regeneration method of an exhaust gas treatment device 8 in the engine system 1, and the engine system 1 having an internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder 2 are provided according to this invention. This engine system 1 also has a fuel injection means 11 and the exhaust gas treatment device 8. The regeneration method includes a process of restraining combustion in at least one of the cylinder 2 and a process of controlling the fuel injection means 11 so as to supply fuel to at least one of the fuel-restrained cylinder 2, and comprises a process of regenerating the exhaust gas treatment device by fuel injection.
