PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform processing suitable to performance of a peripheral device which is connected to a data processing unit by determining the performance of the connected peripheral device. SOLUTION: The data processing unit with a peripheral device electrically connected thereto to transfer content data to the peripheral device and process the content data comprises: a means for processing the content data, a means for acquiring performance information to acquire the performance information of the peripheral device to be set in advance depending on the performance of the peripheral device, a means for determining performance which compares the performance information of the peripheral device and the performance information of the data processing unit to determine whether the performance of the peripheral device is suited to the performance of the data processing unit or not, and a means for changing the process of the content data in the data processing means depending on the performance information of the peripheral device when it is determined that the performance of the peripheral device is not suited to that of the data processing unit.
