ELECTRIC BLOWER AND VACUUM CLEANER USING IT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable electric blower wherein temperature rise in a carbon brush is reduced. SOLUTION: The electric blower includes: a commutator 9 freely rotatable and provided in a rotor (not shown) with an impeller (not shown) fixed at one end; a holder 40 constructed of a cylindrical body 45 for slidably housing the carbon brush 26 and having a substantially rectangular sectional shape and a lid body 16 closing one opening of the cylindrical body 45 and connected with one end of the carbon brush 26; and a coil spring 18 for biasing the carbon brush 26 toward the other opening of the cylindrical body 45 and bringing the other end of the carbon brush 26 into pressure contact with the commutator 9. The clearance between an end face 45a of the cylindrical body 45 and the commutator 9 is gradually increased as it goes from the upwind side (on the side of the impeller) to the downwind side (on the side opposite the impeller) in the direction of the length of the commutator 9. With the same component formation as conventional, it is possible to reduce temperature rise in the carbon brush 26, suppress the deposition of carbon powder on the inner face of the cylindrical body 45, and enhance the reliability of the electric blower.
