摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve image display of high quality by sufficiently vanishing electrons captured by a tunnel insulating layer during a selected period in an unselected period. <P>SOLUTION: The scanning circuit SD1, SD2, SD3, SD4, ... of a scanning driver 2 apply scanning signals to scanning lines 21 one by one. Pulse voltages each having a prescribed width and a prescribed wave height are applied to selected data lines 27 selected by the scanning signals from driving circuits DD1, DD2, DD3, DD4,... . This pulse passes a high-pass filter HPF to obtain positive and negative pulse voltages having narrow widths. This short pulse is applied to the lower electrode of a cathode K, the width of the positive bias voltage having the short width is set to a width of not more than the charging time of the cathode K, and it is thereby prevented that electrons are emitted when extracting captured electrons (blanking period) to cause erroneous emission.
