A hydraulic fluid heating apparatus 20 includes an inlet 1,21 for higher pressure fluid, an outlet 28 for lower pressure fluid and a flow path restriction 3a between the inlet and outlet through which higher pressure fluid passes to heat the apparatus. There is an orifice 3a, which may be the same as or additional to the restriction, through which the fluid flowing from the inlet to the outlet must pass and which is closable by a linearly acting closure structure 8 urged by a resilient device 7, e.g. a spring, to close the orifice when the high pressure fluid is below a threshold pressure. The closure structure includes a thermally sensitive material, e.g. paraffin wax, subjected to the fluid flowing to the outlet and expanding in response to increasing temperature to cause the closure of the orifice above a threshold temperature. May have a second, low pressure inlet 26 or separate heating fluid and system fluid outlets and may be installed in an aircraft hydraulics return line. |
