A compensation method of an optical disc apparatus is provided to prevent a discrimination error of optical disc type by storing a reference tracking error signal value of the optical disc apparatus, comparing a measured tracking error signal with the stored reference value, and correcting the tracking error signal to a normal range. A method for compensating an optical disc apparatus for discrimination of optical disc type comprises a step for storing a reference tracking error signal value according to the optical disc type(304), a step for measuring a tracking error signal after loading a specific optical disc(308), a step for checking whether the measured tracking error signal belongs to the normal range of the reference tracking error signal value(310), and a step for correcting the tracking error signal deviating from the normal range(312).
