Disclosed is use of sarcopodin as a gene involved in the distant metastasis of a tumor or the long-term prognosis in a tumor. Specifically disclosed is a method for determining the risk of distant metastasis of a tumor or the long-term prognosis in a tumor, which comprises the step of measuring the expression level of sarcopodin in a tumor tissue. Also disclosed is a metastasis inhibitor comprising a polynucleotide complementary to mRNA encoding sarcopodin or comprising an expression vector which enables the expression of the polynucleotide.
