A liquid crystal display and a driving method thereof are provided to remove the brightness difference among liquid crystal display panels at the same outer luminance. A backlight(80) irradiates light to rear side of an LCD panel(10). A capacitor(C) is connected to the photosensor(P/S). A switch element(SW1) charges voltage in capacitor and outputs the charged voltage. An external light sense circuit(40) senses the external light irradiated in the front side of the LCD panel. A look up table(LUT) converts the output of the external light sense circuit into standard values. A PWM(Pulse-Width Modulating) signal(PWM) is generated in order to control the luminance of the backlight. A PWM generating unit(60) varies the duty ratio of the pulse-width modulating signal. |
