The bumper has a deformation element arranged at a front side (7) of a bumper cross beam (5). The deformation element is formed by a profile part (9), which is arranged along an extending direction of the cross beam. The deformation element is connected at the front side of the cross beam during exceedance of forces, which are caused by an accident such that a section of the profile part is upwardly and/or downwardly released to enlarge the front side. An edge region of the profile part is fastened to a side of the cross beam. The profile part is made of a plastically deformable metal.
