A planar antenna 5 comprises a grounded base member 51 with a pair of side wall portions 521 connected to wing portions 522, where the side wall portions 521 connect to opposite, respective, edges of the base member 51. A radiation member 54, which is parallel to the base 51, is connected to the base and includes another connection member 55 with a free end 551 for connection to a feed line. The wing portions 522 may be a first height h1 above the base 51 whilst the radiation member 54 is a second height h2, greater than the first, above the base 51. The planar antenna 5 may be formed by a punched and folded metal plate. A circuit board 61 may include a slot 611 dimensioned to receive the base 51 of the antenna such that the side wall portions 521 are adjacent the edges of the slot 611 and the wing portions 522 are adjacent to the surface of the circuit board 61. The thickness of the circuit board may correspond with first height h1 associated with the wing portions 522. The radiation member 54 may include a slot arrangement. The planar inverted-F antenna may be used in conjunction with one or more other antennas, such as a printed or plate monopole 65, to provide an efficient and compact MIMO wireless network device. |
