PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas treatment method having low treatment cost for destroying or decomposing harmful substances including organic gas, without generating secondary adverse effects and possibly recomposing dioxines. SOLUTION: The gas treatment device 1 comprises a torch 2 for burning a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen to generate high temperature flames F, and a gas duct 3 provided near the high temperature flames F generated by the torch 2 for guiding gas containing harmful substances. The device uses for instantaneously destroying the harmful substances at a level of a high temperature of 2,000°C or in a state that the harmful substances contact with the high temperature flames F. In this case, only water vapor is generated by burning the mixture itself of oxygen and hydrogen and no secondary adverse effects due to CO<SB>2</SB>and NOx are generated. The harmful substances are destroyed at a local high temperature, and treatment gas is instantaneously cooled and dioxines decomposed may not be recomposed.
