Providing aluminium-mirrored surfaces - with a protective coating

Vapour deposited organo-titanium cpds. as protective coatings on aluminised reflective surfaces. A titanate, pref. 2-ethyl-hexyl-titanate is vapour deposited under vacuum from a saturated ceramic carrier, pref. a sintered, porous body of magnesium fluoride which is radiantly heated to evaporate the titanate and opt. also the magnesium fluoride after all the titanate has been driven off. Protective film on lamp reflectors. Cheap process providing easily controlled even coating having good optical quality and giving better protection than known quartz coatings or lacquers.
