1,220,539. Pipe junction-pieces. COMBUSTION ENG. Inc. 17 Nov., 1969 [20 Nov., 1968], No. 56198/69. Heading F2G. A tubular Y-piece is fabricated from a close return bend 12 and straight tubing 14, by forming an elongated hole 18 in the elbow of the bend, Fig. 3, reforming the hole with a substantially cylindrical flange, and mating and sealing the straight tubing around the hole. The elongated hole 18 is produced by milling, and the reformed hole by a tool (24), Fig. 7 (not shown), with a tip 26 having a cross-section identical to hole 18, the tool being rotated through 360 degrees to form the flanges for necessary location of the straight tubing 14. Alternatively, the reformed hole may be produced by a bullet-like-die pulled through the hole, or the use of lever action expanders, or expanding mandrels. The Y-piece is completed by welding the two sections 12, 14. |
