PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for producing an electronic paper display, in particular, a multi-color electrophoretic display, with higher efficiency and higher reliability. SOLUTION: A plurality of microcapsules each comprising a display toner and a transparent shell enveloping the same are prepared and electrostatically charged. A suspension of white dye particles and non-white (R, G, B, K) dye particles in a substantially clear fluid may be used as the display toner. A display layer comprising microcapsules is formed on a substrate 102 by depositing the plurality of microcapsules by attraction to the electrostatic charge, and an electrode layer 110b is positioned in contact with or in proximity to the substrate 102 so that the substrate 102 is located between the display layer and the electrode layer 110b. Thus, a display 100 is obtained in which when an electric field is applied to the display layer with the electrode layer 110b, the dye particles within each microcapsule move within the microcapsule.
