A method for treating organic material (e.g. animal or human remains, corps) prior to burial. The organic material is placed in a container, made of a material that comprises a mineral -based filler and a polyolefin, and subjected to cryogenic freezing process. The material is subsequently disintegrated and the resulting granulate is placed in a second container, made of a material that comprises a mineral - based filler and a polyolefin. The mineral-based filler used in the containers increases the pH of the organic material to be buried. As a result a more effective degradation with less effect on the environment takes place.
