An abutment block (50) for mounting between ends of a brake pad (22) and a caliper housing (20) is formed as a monolithic structure to prevent relative movement between the block (50) and the caliper housing (20). The abutment block has a front face directed toward the end of the associated brake pad, and the front face has a recess (64) formed therein. The recess has a mounting hole (64b) extending therethough, with the mounting hole being at an acute angle to the front face. The abutment block is received in a recess in the caliper housing, and is securely fastened to the caliper housing by a fastener (66).
