PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filtering device capable of keeping a cooling effect for a long period of time by a relatively simple configuration and reducing noise and reducing the number of times of maintenance as a result, and a projection type video display device using it. SOLUTION: The filtering device is provided with a filter 80 disposed to an inlet, and an opening wall 82 disposed between the filter 80 and a cooling fan 15 for taking air from the inlet through the filter 80 and provided with an opening 81 smaller than the filter 80, and dust is stored intentionally from one part of the filter 80.
