The device has a characteristic quantity estimating module (10) for estimating a characteristic quantity of a radiofrequency signal chosen in a power and amplitude group. A gain controlling module (20) automatically controls gain of a radiofrequency positioning receiver. An automatic gain control analyzing module (30) analyzes a probability density function of the characteristic quantity, whose parameters are adjusted to provide inputs to the controlling module to assure an optimal gain of the receiver. An independent claim is also included for a method for processing a radiofrequency signal.
