Chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are monitored to provide feedback to a rescuer. Force exerted by, and displacement of, a compression member is measured and a chest stiffness function representing a relationship between measured force and measured displacement is determined. The linearity of the chest stiffness function is analysed. The linearity of the chest stiffness function relates to the efficacy of the CPR compressions. The chest stiffness function may be used to determine other factors such as patent category (adult or paediatric), chest size, force threshold and the presence of a mattress underneath the patient. Feedback may be provided to a rescuer based on the determination of compression efficiency. |
