PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire for a heavy load capable of accurately and visually determining a tire service life even when cracks occur in a tread groove bottom of a lug groove or the like and a protection belt layer is exposed. SOLUTION: The pneumatic radial tire for heavy load is provided with a pair of bead cores; a carcass of at least one ply toroidally extended between the bead cores; a reinforcement belt positioned on the tire radial direction outer side of a crown part of the carcass and formed so that cords are extended to cross each other while sandwiching the tire equatorial plane; and the at least one protection belt layer positioned on the tire radial direction outer side of the reinforcement belt and comprising extension cords. In a predetermined position between the innermost protection belt layer positioned on the tire radial direction innermost side out of the protection belt layers and an outermost cord rubber cover layer positioned on the tire radial direction outermost side out of cord rubber cover layers constituting a crossing belt, a colored layer having color different from that of cover rubber constituting the protection belt layer is arranged.
