A process for repairing a damaged vehicle structural member, in particular a side sill, the vehicle structural member being constructed from a plurality of wall layers arranged one behind the other, comprises the step of wall-layer-selective cutting-out of a damaged section of the vehicle structural member, to produce a residual vehicle structural member (R'). A current replacement wall layer (1, 2) corresponding to the rearmost cut-out wall layer is then cut to size providing a presettable minimum overlap region with the residual vehicle structural member (R'). The cut-to-size current replacement wall layer (1, 2) is introduced in the region of the rearmost cut-out wall layer of the residual vehicle structural member (R') and mechanical joining thereto in the minimum overlap region, to produce a new residual vehicle structural member (R'). The process is repeated until the current replacement wall layer (1, 2) is introduced and joined as the foremost cut-out wall layer and hence the new residual vehicle structural member (R) corresponds to the undamaged vehicle structural member. |
