An electrical socket unit (1, 4) is provided comprising electrical input terminals (7, 8, 9) and at least two electrical outlet sockets (2, 3) each of which is connected to the input terminals by way of an electrical supply circuit including a control conductor (16, 17). The electrical socket unit has manually or automatically activated switch means (14, 25, 38, 62) for opening the supply circuit to an associated electrical outlet socket (the default electrical outlet socket) in response to a closed load circuit being connected to the other of the electrical outlet sockets (the priority electrical outlet socket). The switch means is adapted to maintain the supply circuit to the default electrical outlet socket open for at least substantially the entire duration for which a load connected to the priority socket remains operative and, once the load circuit to the priority socket opens, to close the supply circuit to the default electrical outlet socket once more following an optional time delay. |
