<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To firstly provide a method for producing fluorine-containing an alcohol having three or more functional groups, economically with high purity, secondly to provide a multifunctional fluorine-containing polymerizable compound derived from the above alcohol, and thirdly to provide an antireflection coating, antireflection film and image display device using the multifunctional fluorine-containing polymerizable compound. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing a multifunctional fluorine-containing alcohol represented by general formula (II) includes reducing a fluorine-containing carbonyl compound represented by general formula (I) using a metal borohydride in a 3-5C alcohol solvent.
