<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical signal generator capable of generating broadband wavelength sweep optical signals at high repeated frequency, and to provide an optical communication system for performing parallel data transmission through the use of the optical signal generator. <P>SOLUTION: The optical signal generator includes: a sweeping light source 11 (wavelength sweep type light source) for increasing the wavelength of the output optical signal with time at the prescribed repeated frequency, that is, for performing positive wavelength sweeping; a sweeping light source 12 (wavelength sweep type light source) for reducing the wavelength of the output optical signal with time at the repeated frequency, that is, for performing negative wavelength sweeping; an optical multiplexer 13 for multiplexing the output optical signals from the sweeping light sources 11 and 12 while adjusting the polarization planes to be identical; a non-linear medium 14 that applies a non-linear action to the output optical signals from the optical multiplexer 13; and a wavelength filter 15 for extracting an optical signal of a prescribed wavelength band out of the output optical signals of the non-linear medium 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
