PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fullerene derivative having high solubility in ester solvents such as PGMEA (propylene glycol-1-monomethyl ether-2-acetate) and readily producible at a low cost. SOLUTION: The fullerene derivative has a partial structure represented by formula (I) of the fullerene skeleton in which C1is bound to a hydrogen atom or an optional substituent and C6to C8are each bound to a hydroxyphenyl group.
