A communications system comprising: a public network service provider (102); and a satellite hub (206), wherein the provider is connectable to a client system (100) by a first link (116) and to a public network e.g. Internet (104)by a second link, and wherein the satellite hub is connectable to the client system via a satellite link (200-204), wherein the public network service provider and the satellite hub are connected by means of a dedicated point-to-point interconnect (500). The satellite link is used by the client if the first link to the service provider fails, and enables data sent from remote hosts, unaware of the link failure, to reach the client.
