A substance useful in the treatment of a variety of conditions including bacterial infections, inflammatory conditions and urine retention is obtained by extracting the corms of a plant of the genus Hypoxis (species nitida, rigida and rouposi) with water, alcohol or aqueous ethanol. The extract may be used as such or dried, e.g. by spray drying, to give a solid which may be incorporated into conventional oral pharmaceutical forms. |
