<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst carrier having a high isostatic strength. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst carrier 100 has a honeycomb structure 130 of which the cells 22 extending in a longitudinal direction are demarcated by cell walls 23 and a coating layer 120 installed on the outer peripheral part of the honeycomb structure 130. The honeycomb structure 130 and the coating layer 120 contain at least one of inorganic fibers and whiskers and at least one of the inorganic fibers and the whiskers contained in the honeycomb structure 130 are mainly oriented in a first direction while at least one of the inorganic fibers and the whiskers contained in the coating layer 120 are mainly oriented in a second direction.
