PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a counterweight for preventing derailment when lateral swinging vibration is caused in a guide rail, for example, by an earthquake. SOLUTION: An upper sliding surface 15c formed on the weight body 14 side of the counterweight 1, is seated on a lower sliding surface 13a formed on the frame 6 side. A weight body 14 is slidably supported in the horizontal direction by a frame 6. When relatively strong lateral swinging vibration is caused in the frame 6 via the guide rail 2, for example, by the earthquake, vibration of the weight body 14 is reduced by actively slidingly moving the weight body 14 to the frame 6.
