PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more bright multiphoton excitation fluorescence image by efficiently collecting fluorescence generated in a sample. SOLUTION: The multiphoton excitation laser scanning microscope 1 is equipped with a multiphoton excitation laser light source 3 which emits ultrashort pulse laser light; an optical scanning section 4 which two-dimensionally scans the ultrashort pulse laser light emitted from the multiphoton excitation laser light source 3; an objective lens 7 which focuses the ultra-short pulse laser light scanned by the optical scanning section 4 on the sample A; a condenser lens 21 which is arranged in a position facing the objective lens 7 across the sample A and collects the fluorescence generated from the sample A; and a photodetector 32 which detects the fluorescence collected by the condenser lens 21. The numerical aperture and number of fields of view of the condenser lens 21 are larger than the numerical aperture and number of fields of view of the objective lens 7. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
