<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens drive unit to accurately control movement of a lens without causing stray light. <P>SOLUTION: This lens drive unit 50 having a piezoelectric element 21 receiving a drive signal and the lens shifted along a specified axis, is equipped with: a controller which outputs a specified frequency of drive signal; a piezoelectric element 21 which expands and contracts based on the input of a drive signal outputted from the controller; a rotor 24 which rotates around the axis by receiving the power from the piezoelectric element 21, and has a first section magnetized into at least an S pole and a second section magnetized into an N pole; and a magnetic sensor 26 which detects a magnetic flux that changes according to the rotation of the rotor 24 and outputs the amount of rotation of the rotor 24.
