The invention relates to a device for the remote purchase of a product or service and for exploiting and storing multimedia contents. It comprises a ventilated housing that includes: one or more electronic boards having flashable firmware(s); one or more data storage systems (such as hard drives or flash card readers); a set of connection ports for communicating with any type of digital and/or analogue apparatus for using, sharing, broadcasting data with it or through it (such as text, audio, video, image, computer or electronic data); and a power supply system. The device of the invention is connected to a remote computer server of a provider (by whom it is authenticated), depending on the embodiment, either via a modem or via an adapter/card that is itself connected to a modem or a router (via Wi-Fi, CPL or the like) for accessing the provider's remote server. The provider's server gives access to the servers of products and services sellers (via the computer network) with which the device of the invention exchanges data. Hence, it can display on a receiver, to which it is connected, menus to be selected via an alphanumeric remote control so that the client can find the desired product or service and buy it. The characteristics of the device also allow the remote purchase, download, recording/storage, reading/broadcasting (depending on the rights acquired) and share of any multimedia content. Some configuration also include one and/or the other of the following additional components: a tuner; a TV and/or radio antenna; a hardware payment system optionally fitted with an alphanumeric pad for authentication; an alphanumeric keyboard (with or without: cord/trackball/touchpad) for replacing or completing the remote control. It is particularly adapted for use with on demand video and/or music services and for the remote purchase of products and services, essentially for people who do not have access to the Internet (due to the complexity thereof and to the inherent risks of use), or for people who do not want to connect their computer and their TV set or do not want to come and go between them during a video or music session. |
