A portable terminal and a method for providing an encryption function protect files stably by preventing other people from knowing an encryption key and decoding the encrypted file. A portable terminal includes a memory, an FAT core unit, and a page management unit. The FAT core unit(106) manages the security establishment. If the security establishment is requested by the FAT core unit, the page management unit(108) encrypts data relating to the requested security establishment. The encrypted data is stored in the memory(104).
