PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner in which the gap between an optical box and a cover member is sealed with an elastic member and the production of a defective image such as the color shift caused by the deformation of the optical box due to reaction force of the elastic member is prevented, and to provide an image forming apparatus provided with the optical scanner. SOLUTION: The optical scanner includes: the optical box 29 having a plurality of optical components in its inside; and the cover member 19 which has a side wall 49 along the side wall face of the optical box 29 and is mounted on the optical box 29, wherein the elastic member 54 is provided to the outer side face of the side wall 41 of the optical box 29, the side wall 49 of the cover member 19 is located at the outside of the side wall 41 of the optical box 29 while the cover member 19 is mounted on the optical box 29, the elastic member 54 seals the gap between the side wall 49 of the cover member 19 and the side wall 41 of the optical box 29, and the lower end of the elastic member 54 is located lower than the upper face of the bottom plate 42 of the optical box 29.
