The present invention provides compositions and formulations comprising m etalloprotease enzymes and protein hydrolysate inhibitors that exhibit incre ased storage stability. In one embodiment, the present invention provides li quid detergent formulations comprising at least one metalloprotease (e.g., B acillus sp. neutral metalloprotease) that is stabilized by the inclusion of a protein hydrolysate in the detergent formulation. The invention also provi des a method for making a protein hydrolysate for stabilizing a detergent fo rmulation by digesting a protein substrate with a metalloprotease enzyme.
